James Lawler, MD MPH FIDSA
Dr. Lawler is an internationally respected expert on emerging infectious diseases, pandemic and public health emergency preparedness and response, and biodefense. His experience ranges from basic science and high containment (BSL-4) laboratory research to clinical research, field work in humanitarian disaster and disease outbreak response, and national policy. He has been instrumental in shaping US biodefense and public health emergency preparedness policy, working in the White House Homeland Security Council and National Security Council staffs under two administrations. He has served as a WHO consultant for outbreak response in working group and field capacites during the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Guinea. A 21 year veteran of the US Navy Medical Corps, Dr. Lawler was a key subject matter expert for US Department of Defense planning for West African Ebola response and organized and trained the Department's domestic Ebola medical response team.
